The Government of Tamil Nadu as early as in the year 1982 enacted the Tamil Nadu Manual Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Work) Act, 1982, which is a comprehensive legislation for the workers in the Unorganised Sector. This Act was enacted to regulate the conditions of work and to provide various welfare measures to manual workers. This Act provides for formulation of schemes for the workers in the employments listed in the schedule and also for the establishment of Boards for the implementation of the welfare schemes for the workers.
