This Act regulates the employment of workers in shops and commercial establishments. The Act provides for the opening and closing hours of shops and establishments, and provision of weekly holiday with wages. The officials of the Labour Department, who are notified as Inspectors under the Act, are competent to initiate prosecution proceedings against the employers who violate the provision of this law. For the purpose of effective enforcement of the provisions of the Act, and for the employers to correct themselves by realising their commissions and omissions the “Inspectors” notified under the Act are empowered for compounding of offences for the contravention’s noticed during their inspection.
