The main object of this Act is to provide for the conferment of permanent status to workmen in industrial establishments. The Act is applicable to industrial establishments in which not less than twenty workers are employed. According to Section 3 of the Act, a worker who is in service for a period of 480 days in a continuous period of 24 calendar months in an industrial establishment should be made permanent. The Inspectors of Labour, Inspectors of Plantations and Inspector of factories are notified as ‘Inspectors’ under this Act.
