This institute is functioning under the Administrative control of Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department, Government of Tamilnadu. The Hon'ble Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department is the Chairman for the Governing Committee of this Institute. The Government of Tamilnadu is giving Grant every year for meeting the administrative expenses.
The Director is the Head of the Institute, who is an officer in the cadre of Additional Commissioner of Labour from Labour Department or an officer in the cadre of Additional Director from Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health Department (deputation official). There are two Deputy Directors from Labour and Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health Department respectively on deputation to look after day today affairs of the Institute.
